Update on 2020 AAU Karate Nationals

04/28/2020

The 2020 AAU Karate Nationals will now take place from October 8th - 11th, at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Dear Friends,

I hope that you and your family are all staying healthy and safe. It is important that you continue to train and stay connected to your dojo.

We are living in extraordinary times and learning more about our current situation every day.  As the situation continues to evolve rapidly, so does our response.  I would like to announce that we will be rescheduling our national championships.

Through our great partnerships with the Walt Disney World Company we have been able to secure the Columbus Day holiday weekend.   The 2020 AAU Karate Nationals will now take place from October 8th - 11th, at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex in The Arena located at the Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  In addition, AAU Taekwondo has agreed to partner with us and host their national champions at the same time.

Also, as previously stated in other correspondences, the AAU Karate Committee has modified its eligibility process to automatically qualify all athletes in an area/state where the National Qualifier was canceled.

As always, we remain committed to communicating with you and providing updates on our website (Click Here) and our Facebook page (Click Here).

As a reminder, the 2020 WUKF World Karate Championships were rescheduled to September 10th - 13th in Szczecin, Poland.  The WUKF Executive Committee decision will give all federations the opportunity to prepare and plan for their participation.

The team roster for those that have previously qualified for the WUKF/WKO US National Team will remain the same. These are advanced division athletes (Kata and/or Kumite) who are 10 years and older as of September 10, 2020 and who placed in the top two positions at last year's 2019 AAU Karate Nationals. Please note the date change for eligibility from July 1st to September 10th

If you did not qualify, and are interested in participating at the 2020 WUKF World Karate Championships as well as other upcoming international competitions, you may qualify by participating at the WUKF/WKO US Team Trials.  This event has been rescheduled and will be held during the 2020 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Chesapeake, VA.  The Team Trials will take place at the Chesapeake Conference Center from August 1st - 2nd

In the meantime, stay healthy and keep training. Hope to see you all at this year's AAU Karate National Championships at ESPN's Wide World of Sports in Orlando.

Thank you for being part of the AAU karate program!

Yours in AAU Karate,

J. B. Mirza
